The nature of the cloud exacerbates a lot of the risks we have seen in on-premises environments-including, in particular, privilege escalations and lateral movement.Īt Sonrai Security, we recently discovered that approximately 10% of enterprise-cloud identities have full administrative permissions-enough to completely compromise an organization’s cloud environment. From there, the attacker can potentially gain access to sensitive data or deliver a malicious payload.īut in the cloud-centric world, identities are the new perimeter- and they are proliferating, increasing the scale of identity risks. In a traditional on-premises environment with a defined perimeter, an attacker using a compromised account will often exploit bugs or misconfigurations to give that account more privileges than it is entitled to. A BitArray manages a compact array of bit values, which are represented as Booleans, where true indicates that the bit is on (1) and false indicates the bit is off (0). The backbone of the game is the board, which is a List that contains BitArrays. The source code in the project is very well commented, and should be easy to follow by adding some breakpoints on the mouse events. I just want to give a real basic overview of the code. Now, my game works even better, and if I ever want to add more rows to the board, I can without any code changes. I figured that this would be very helpful, so I took his logic and applied it to my game. It was very informative, and he had even written an application in C++ that would generate all the possible solutions to the game. I came across an article written by Daniel O'Brien. So, what I decided to do was search Google for the game logic. I would have to go in and add every new move to the list, and it would get real big very quickly. This seemed fine at the beginning, but what if I wanted to be able to add another row on the fly. I had a huge switch statement that listed every possible move, and when a player would make a move, it would check to see if it was on the list. I created the whole game and had it working, but I knew that my game logic was really sloppy. I knew that I had to create a bunch of pegs, and that the player needed to be able to drag a peg from one hole to another. I really didn't do that much planning for this. I thought it would be cool if I could create this game from scratch. Well, the other day, I was eating at Cracker Barrel, and I was playing their peg game on the table. Years later, I made Tic Tac Toe using C#. As I was creating it, I learned so many different things, and it also got me very interested in making games. I had never created any games before, nor had I ever been exposed to any game logic. A fully automated data analysis platform produces customized reports providing actionable results. “I don’t have two postdocs who can stare at data for months.”Īdvanta validated various tests that detect and quantify hundreds of organisms and pathogens, as well as thousands of antimicrobial resistance markers. “In academic labs, there are resources and time-they can keep digging into the data and identify what’s useful or what’s not useful,” says Sharma. Antibiotic treatment for acute infection or for prophylaxis often fails to prevent recurrent infections.Ĭlinical labs must provide accurate results in a timely manner so physicians can make the most informed decision for their patients-often when their lives are at stake. While the standard of care continues to be microbial culture and sensitivity, the prevalence of drug resistance in the microorganisms that cause these infections is increasing. In the United States, UTIs are among the most common infections, accounting for an average of 10 million office visits and 1 million hospitalizations per year. Precision metagenomics, then, could change the landscape of infectious disease diagnosis and care as we know it. Precision metagenomics, on the other hand, uses NGS and allows researchers to comprehensively sequence the entire genetic content of all organisms present in a given complex sample. The technology reduces the time needed to learn critical information about a microbiome from weeks to hours. There is no PCR panel for pan-infectious diseases or a urinary tract infection -only for particular bugs.” Because, Sharma says, “if you’re doing PCR, you can find only what you’re looking for. Their goal is to eventually migrate to NGS-supported products for faster and more economical infectious disease diagnostic workflows. Sharma’s main role is to actively seek out new research technology and bring it into the clinical setting, offering laboratory developed molecular tests to small medical practices and large hospital systems.Īdvanta is currently developing multiplex qPCR-based panels with Scienetix, a company Sharma cofounded with Advanta CEO Rob Carpenter, PhD. “We realized that NGS and molecular diagnostics in particular were going to be central to infectious disease diagnosis moving forward, and we want to be as cutting edge as possible.” “The paradigm of infectious disease diagnosis is shifting,” says Sharma. Accordingly, Advanta has processed about 1 million SARS-CoV-2 samples since the start of the pandemic.Īlthough Advanta specialized in infectious diseases before 2020, the years since have only placed greater emphasis on molecular diagnostics. But today they largely focus on infectious disease testing and research through their microbiology culture, PCR, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) facilities. Based in Tyler, Texas, Advanta was originally founded as a routine clinical lab to service the local region. Precision metagenomics is the direct opposite of that-you choose the antibiotic therapy based on the comprehensive microbial profile of a given infection, including the antimicrobial resist markers.”Īdvanta Genetics is a 50-person clinical and research laboratory whose mission is to drive equitable access to timely and accurate medical care through innovation and the adoption of new technologies. “It’s not a natural problem, because we selected treatment based on empirical evidence, and administered imprecise antibiotic therapy. “When I was studying tuberculosis for my doctorate, we used to say that drug resistance is a humanmade problem,” says Rahul Sharma, PhD, chief innovation officer of Advanta Genetics. This article explores the development of PCNs as a tool for social work researchers, practitioners, and students. They allow social workers to contribute their unique knowledge of social systems across interdisciplinary contexts and contribute to conversations about social. PCN users can keep current on empirical developments, disseminate knowledge, connect to others for collaboration and mentoring, and expand in-person networks. These participatory networks are goal-specific, extending across disciplinary and international borders. One potential way to close gaps is by using professional collaboration networks (PCNs), which are technology-mediated, user-centered relationship constellations designed to enhance connections and professional opportunities. Implementation science offers systematic strategies for addressing gaps. This occurs because of a lack of information exchange between stakeholders about various knowledge of problems and solutions. Coming soon: 23-year-old memoirs. In professional disciplines, gaps often exist between research and practice. You may be surprised at what you come up with. Use them to reflect, state life goals or even just for a writing exercise. I encourage any writer, journalist or even recent graduate who is undergoing a huge change in your life to try to write a few. But then again, that’s a different story. While some of these may only make sense to me, the only one I would change is the one about being too nice. Never was satisfied with stagnant surroundings. Restlessness will cause a fulfilling life. I decided to post the ones I wrote when I was 18, naive and a beach bum in Pensacola. Now, since I’ve gone through J-school I see journalism as storytelling for the public good.Īs I was reading one of my journals (the one I kept the summer before I moved to Miami) I came across a page titled “Six Word Memoirs.” I remember writing that after seeing a book by the same name, where authors and celebrities were asked to write about themselves in six words. Have correct or appropriate spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation. Each memoir must: Contain exactly 6 words. I used to write for myself and would only do so to reflect, put things in perspective and to organize my life in my mind. Guidelines for Writing your own Six-Word Memoir For the next class: You will be writing between ten and fifteen six-word memoirs. My reason for writing has changed somewhat. To write was always my first passion, and since 75 percent of the birthday presents I ever received were journals, I took a hint and kept doing it. The struggles I’ve faced have helped shape my life and get me to where I am today, and I can’t complain about the present. While this blog is mainly to share science, health or any other articles I write, it is also to share the journey of a struggling journalist. When I say “struggling” I don’t necessarily mean it in a negative way. Below is a list of defendants who have been released, along with their town of residence. SALT LAKE CITY - Three Utah high school seniors are among 161 nationwide who have been recognized as U.S. Global namespace pollution is not inherently bad, similar to a lot of coding paradigms it’s more meant for the longevity and maintainability of an application. You can still use bootstrap in this case too, you’ll just be importing it differently (similar to how the link mentioned bringing in jQuery with a cdn). You can then take out turbo, stimulus, and sass to really bring down the complexity and not even need to us esbuild or a sass compiler. If you are just using this for a project and don’t need the complexity of a JS bundler, you can bring back UJS which is how things were done by default before. Last time I looked at the rails guides for app javascript best practices it was fairly lacking, mostly because it’s not entirely it’s responsibility to go in-depth about JS development. Rails is a very mature framework that’s been around for a long time, which is both great from a stability and feature rich perspective, but also potentially frustrating from a learning perspective because there may be a lot of outdated information. I apologise if my thoughts are scattered all over the place but that’s basically how I’m feeling right now lol. I know you said “no more global accessibility etc.”, but what are the consequences of importing the jquery (or any other javascript/css library) in the application layout as above? I realise that every view using these would have to be rendered inside application layout (which happens by default, but can be changed) but are there any other consequences? I’m guessing not being able to override styles (for css) easily might be one. When I started a new project with rails new project_name -c bootstrap does that use esbuild by default? In general, how can I tell? (This isn’t a complaint… just the situation I’m finding myself in.) The problem with finding beginner friendly Rails resources seems to be a lot of refer back to older ways of doing things (generally speaking, but also the asset pipeline in particular) and a lot of them lead me down rabbit holes that I often can’t tell are worth burrowing into or not. However, I suspect that this may well be quite brittle and create hard to debug situations.Actually I’m new to the whole web development thing altogether… working on a student project (with a looming deadline). It might be possible to make use of this or some derivative of this to JIT compile an entire module with a set of flags that sometimes change.
